Stella Maris College is an independent female Catholic Secondary College with a singular focus on academic excellence, that is balanced with a commitment and values in religion, community service, and extra curriculum activities. The College main campus is located at Manly with a mixture of heritage and new buildings.

We were approached to replace a 39m long retaining wall on the school’s northern boundary with Eurobin Avenue due to uncertainty about its stability. Construction had to be completed in stages to maintain the structural integrity of the nearby existing heritage school building during the temporary excavations required.

Each stage included excavations, temporary stabilisation of battered slopes, demolition of the existing footing and sandstone wall, new piles, new footings and a new rendered block retaining wall. Additional works included services diversions, tree removal, waterproofing, painting and fencing. All works were carried out in close consultation with the client and consultants while constantly monitoring the state of the existing heritage building.
